From the first book of the Bible in Genesis 1 where God said, "Let there be light," to the last book of the Bible in Revelation 22 where it says, "They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light," this theme of light and darkness is woven throughout scripture.

This camp season, through our retreats and summer camp, we will be examining this theme as we recognize that God is The Source of light--both physically and spiritually, that He commands us to shine our light, and the importance of walking in His light.

Make plans to join us this Spring, Summer, and Fall as we shine a light, through God's word, on these spiritual truths, and learn how they apply to our lives!

2 Corinthians 4:6
“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
The point of a lamp is to shine, but unless the lamp is plugged into a source of power, they are unable to serve the purpose for which they were created. At creation, God spoke into the darkness and said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. He is the Source of light, and just like a lamp needs to be plugged into a source of power in order to shine, so must we be connected to the Light, Jesus, to be able to shine as light in the dark world. Join us this Spring as we learn about the true Source of light, Jesus Christ, and how we can plug our lives into Him so that we can be filled with His light and shine on those around us.

Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Again, the point of a lamp is to shine and to light up the darkness. Lamps are to glow in the dark. This light is beneficial to the one who is shining it, but also to those around them. Jesus compares those who follow Him to lamps that need to shine and light up the darkness so that all can see. Join us this summer as we take this idea of glowing in the dark and teach campers about the importance of letting our light shine to those around us that they may see the True Source of light—Jesus Christ. It’s going to be a summer of glow sticks, neon, and glow in the dark fun as we learn about the importance of letting our light shine!

Isaiah 2:5
“O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.”

When it’s dark, we need flashlights and spotlights to get rid of the darkness and reveal to us what’s around us. Spotlights reveal animals, obstacles, the path ahead, and even people! We need spotlights to show us the way and the dangers that we need to avoid. As long as we walk within it’s light, we won’t go astray. But, if you are looking toward a spotlight, anything that comes between you and that light becomes dark and you only see the light around it. Both principles are true for our lives as well! If we walk in the light of the Lord, He reveals to us the path He has for us and the dangers along the way to avoid. As we walk in His light, when people look at us, they won’t see us, but they will see Him and His light. Join us this Fall as we talk about the different aspects of light and how we can “walk in the light of the Lord!”
