Matthew 7:24-25
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
Foundations are important. Without the proper foundation, things crumble. You can look at skyscrapers, bridges, houses, or even your playhouse in your backyard; without the proper foundation, the structure is unsafe, insecure, and prime for collapse. When these things collapse people get hurt, precious things are lost, and lives are destroyed—all because they were not built on a firm foundation. The same is true in our personal lives as well. Too often we try to build our lives on the things of this world (money, fame, relationships, possessions, etc.), but all these foundations are shifting sand. The only firm foundation is Jesus and the truth of His word. For 100 years, Bancroft has been built on the Rock—Jesus Christ and His word. He is the only sure foundation. Join us during our Spring retreat as we examine Jesus’ parable of the builders in Matthew 7 and learn to build our lives on the right foundation—Jesus.

Psalm 125:1
“Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.”

Have you ever tried to move a mountain? They are pretty immovable. The Psalmist in Psalm 125 teaches us that those who trust in the Lord are just like a mountain that cannot be moved. In a time when it seems like everything is moving and nothing is certain, the need for immovable things is vital! For 100 years Bancroft had steadfastly trusted in the Lord, and the Lord has allowed us to be immovable. Join us this Summer as we examine what it means to trust in the Lord, rely on His faithfulness, and challenge ourselves to be immovable in our faith.

Joshua 4:7
“these stones shall be…a memorial forever.”

Monuments are iconic. If you saw silhouetted pictures of monuments from around the world, you would probably be able to tell me their names, or the country that they are in. Monuments are there for a purpose. Monuments are meant to remind us of events, people, and lessons that are important. Those monuments are there to prevent us from forgetting the sacrifices and lessons learned. Throughout scripture, monuments and memorials are established for these same reasons. From the feasts in the Old Testament, to altars that are erected, to the Lord’s Supper and baptism, all these monuments and memorials are there to help us remember. In Joshua 4, the Israelites are commanded to build a monument to remind them of how the Lord had been faithful to keep His promise that He would bring them into the Promised Land. For 100 years, Bancroft has been a monument to the faithfulness of God. Join us this Fall as we examine monuments throughout scripture, are challenged to recognize the monuments in our own lives and are reminded of God’s faithfulness in our lives.
